Our verdict

Chrome Remote Desktop suits people who want to reach their own computer from a phone or another computer, or give a friend quick screen-share support, using Chrome. Skip it if you want session recording, team management or a vendor support contract, which the official pages do not describe.

What it does well

  • Set up remote access to a Mac, Windows or Linux computer
  • Google says all remote desktop sessions are fully encrypted
  • One-time access code lets someone share their screen for support

Where it falls short

  • Chrome is required to set up access or request remote support
  • No system requirements or feature comparison on the official pages
  • Shared sessions ask you to confirm sharing every 30 minutes

The official Chrome Remote Desktop website, 16 October 2026.

Chrome Remote Desktop is described as 'the easy way to remotely connect with your home or work computer, or share your screen with others'. You can access your own computer, share your screen to collaborate, or give and receive remote support. Google says it is built on Google's secure infrastructure using open web technologies like WebRTC.

On a computer it runs on the web, and you install host components to set up remote access on a Mac, Windows or Linux computer; on Linux this is a 64-bit Debian package. To reach another computer from a phone or tablet you download the Chrome Remote Desktop app for Android or iOS. You access a computer by entering the PIN you set for it. For support sessions, the person sharing generates a one-time access code and is asked to confirm sharing every 30 minutes.

Neither the home page nor the Chrome Help article mentions a price, plan or licence cost, and no paid plan appears on them. Administrators of managed accounts can control access to the tool.
