The free plans differ in size. Jira's Free plan covers up to 10 users with 2GB of storage and community support. Plane's Free cloud plan is $0 for up to 12 users with basic roles and views, with no wiki, dashboards or integrations.
Paid prices are close on paper, though the plans are different and we did not compare their features. Jira Standard is $8.48 per user per month with monthly billing, and Premium is $15.56. Plane Pro is $8 per user per month monthly or $6 annually, and Business is $15 monthly or $13 annually.
Hosting and licence differ. Plane's code is under the GNU AGPL v3, with Docker and Kubernetes self-hosting. The Atlassian pages we checked list Jira for web, iOS and Android and did not mention an open-source licence. Plane also has iOS and Android apps.
Both list a free route for a small team. Jira also offers a 7-day trial of Standard or Premium, while Plane's Enterprise Grid plan is marked coming soon and Jira's Enterprise plan is quoted through Atlassian's sales form.
