Our verdict

Worth a look if you want an agent-focused editor with a free tier and the option to import VS Code settings. Skip it if you rely on marketplace extensions or want to stay inside your current IDE.

What it does well

  • Free plan lists unlimited Tab completions and unlimited inline edits
  • Installers for macOS, Windows 10+, and Linux (tarball, deb, rpm)
  • Can import settings from VS Code or Cursor

Where it falls short

  • Product and website have been renamed, so older Windsurf pages and plans may not apply
  • Free plan agent quota is described only as light, with no numbers
  • Extensions cannot be installed from any marketplace
The Windsurf (now Devin Desktop) website
The official Windsurf (now Devin Desktop) website, 16 October 2026.

Windsurf's website now redirects to devin.ai/desktop, and the official docs say the product package is now named devin-desktop, with a transitional windsurf package so existing installs keep updating. It is described as an AI IDE for running local and cloud agents. Settings can be imported from VS Code or Cursor, but the docs say extensions cannot be installed from any marketplace and some extensions, such as other AI completion extensions, are incompatible.

The Devin pricing page lists a Free plan at $0 with a light quota to code with agents, limited model availability, unlimited inline edits and unlimited Tab completions. Pro is $20 per month with increased quotas, full model availability and access to cloud agents, and extra usage can be bought at API pricing. Max is $200 per month with significantly higher quotas.

Teams is listed at $80 per month for the team plan plus $40 per month per full dev seat, for up to 200 users. Enterprise is by quote. The page says paid plans include a usage allowance that refreshes daily and weekly.
