Our verdict

Suits people who mostly want cited, search-style answers and a choice of models on paid plans. Skip it if you want a broad all-in-one assistant on the free tier, since the free plan is limited to Best model selection and a few Pro Searches.

What it does well

  • Every answer includes inline citations to sources
  • Free plan lists limits: 3 Pro Searches a day, 1 Research query a month
  • Paid plans let you choose among models from several providers

Where it falls short

  • Free plan has no manual model choice or image generation
  • Monthly-billing price is not shown on the Pro page, only $17 billed annually
  • Max is $167/month billed annually; Enterprise Pro starts at $40 per seat

Perplexity combines web search with models built by Perplexity and by other providers, and shows inline citations with answers. Modes include Search, Deep Research, Learn Mode, Model Council (Max), the Comet browser and Perplexity Computer, an agent that needs a subscription and credits. Comet is listed for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android.

The Free plan lists practically unlimited basic searches, 3 Pro Searches per day, 1 Research query per month, limited file uploads, no advanced model selection and no image generation. Pro is listed at $17 per month when billed annually and adds Deep Research, model selection, document and app creation, more usage limits and memory. Max is listed at $167 per month when billed annually and adds maximum Computer usage, 10,000 monthly credits, the highest limits and priority access to new features.

Perplexity's help center lists Enterprise Pro from $40 per seat per month or $400 per year, and Enterprise Max with higher limits (4,000 Pro Searches a week versus 400 on Enterprise Pro). Education Pro is offered to verified students and educators at a discount.
