Our verdict

Loom is for teams that send short recorded explanations and want comments, transcripts and viewer insights in one place. Skip it if you need long recordings on a free plan or want to avoid per-user pricing.

What it does well

  • Free Starter plan with up to 50 members
  • Built-in editor for trimming and stitching clips
  • Transcripts and captions in 50+ languages

Where it falls short

  • Free plan: 25 videos and 5 minute screen recordings
  • Free plan records at up to 720p
  • Removing Loom branding needs the paid Business plan

Loom's headline is 'One video is worth a thousand words,' and it describes itself as a way to record and share AI-powered video messages. It records screen and camera, offers an editor for trimming and stitching clips with overlays, adds transcripts and captions in 50+ languages, and supports comments, emojis, tasks, calls to action and viewer insights. Atlassian announced in October 2023 that it was acquiring Loom.

The Starter plan is $0 with 25 videos, 5 minute screen recordings, up to 25 videos per person, up to 50 members and video quality up to 720p. Business is $18 per user / month and Business + AI is $24 per user / month; the page offers monthly or annual billing, with annual saving up to 17%. Enterprise has no public price.

Loom has a desktop app, a Chrome extension, and mobile apps, with Mac, Windows, iOS and Android downloads listed.
