Our verdict

Good for people who want to run image and other generative models on their own hardware with full control over the workflow, and who do not mind a node graph. Skip it if you want a prompt box that just works in a browser, or have no capable GPU and no wish to pay for cloud time.

What it does well

  • Source is public on GitHub under GPL-3.0
  • Runs locally on Nvidia, AMD, Intel and Apple Silicon, or CPU-only (slower)
  • Graph and nodes interface, with an API and backend you can script

Where it falls short

  • Manual install needs Python 3.12 or 3.13 and PyTorch 2.7 or later
  • Local speed depends on your own GPU; CPU mode is slower
  • Paid Comfy Cloud is metered on GPU time and partner nodes
The ComfyUI website
The official ComfyUI website, 16 October 2026.

ComfyUI describes itself as a node-based interface and inference engine for generative AI, with a graph and nodes interface, an API and a backend. The core project is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence and runs locally. A desktop app is the recommended way to start; there is also a Windows portable build and a manual install that works on all operating systems.

Running it locally costs nothing beyond your own hardware. The docs list the desktop app for Windows, macOS (Apple Silicon only) and Linux (AppImage or .deb), though the GitHub README lists the desktop app for Windows and macOS only. The manual install supports Nvidia, AMD, Intel, Apple Silicon and other accelerators, and you can run without a supported GPU with the --cpu flag, which is slower.

Comfy Cloud is the official paid hosted version. Plans are Standard $20/month ($16/month billed yearly), Creator $35 ($28), Pro $100 ($80) and Team $700 ($630), plus Enterprise. The pricing page says you pay only for active GPU time and Partner Nodes, idle time is free, plan credits do not roll over, and new users get 5 free runs on real GPUs.
