Our verdict

Audition suits podcasters and video editors who want multitrack mixing and restoration tools and already work in Adobe's apps. Skip it if you only need basic recording and trimming, where a free editor is enough.

What it does well

  • Multitrack, waveform and spectral display views in one app
  • Audio restoration tools including a Diagnostics panel
  • Podcast tools and integration with Premiere for video work

Where it falls short

  • Subscription only, with no free plan
  • Free trial length is not stated on Adobe's page
  • Desktop app is listed for Windows and macOS only, with no Linux version

Adobe Audition is an audio workstation for creating, mixing, editing and restoring audio. Adobe's page lists multitrack, waveform and spectral display, an Essential Sound panel, podcast tools for recording, mixing and exporting, Remix to fit a song to a target length, and restoration tools with a Diagnostics panel.

The single-app plan is US$22.99/mo on an annual plan billed monthly (US storefront). Creative Cloud Pro, which includes Audition and 20+ apps, costs more, and a business plan lists US$99.99/mo per license for Audition plus 20+ apps. A free trial is available.
