CapCut has a Free plan with templates and basic editing tools, and paid Pro, Ultra and Teams plans that add AI credits, 1 TB storage and premium templates. Its pricing page showed AED prices to us, so we cannot quote a US price. DaVinci Resolve's free version is listed as free to download; the paid Studio version is $295.

On platforms, CapCut runs on Windows, macOS, iOS, Android and in the browser. DaVinci Resolve runs on Mac, Windows and Linux only, with no phone or web version listed.

Resolve's free version covers editing, color, Fusion effects and Fairlight audio, but is limited to 8-bit formats, up to 60fps and Ultra HD (3840 x 2160). AI tools such as Magic Mask and text-based editing need the Studio version. CapCut's help material says advanced AI tools and premium templates require Pro.

Neither tool is open source. Resolve is a better fit for color and audio work on a desktop; CapCut is built around quick edits, captions and templates.
