Our verdict

Good for developers and site owners who want open-source analytics they can host themselves or run on a free hobby plan. Skip it if you want hosted analytics with large free limits or no setup.

What it does well

  • MIT-licensed; you can self-host it on your own infrastructure
  • Free Hobby plan: 100K events per month and 1 website
  • Includes funnels, goals, retention, heatmaps and session replay

Where it falls short

  • Hobby plan has no API access, team members or email reports
  • Self-hosting needs Node.js 18.18+ and PostgreSQL 12.14+
  • Pro cloud plan is $20/month and counts every pageview as an event
The Umami website
The official Umami website, 16 October 2026.

Umami describes itself as open-source web and product analytics. Its site lists traffic, referrer and campaign tracking, events, a journey report, heatmaps, session replay, funnels, goals and retention. It says it works without cookies and never collects personal data; these are the vendor's own claims.

You can self-host the MIT-licensed code, which needs Node.js 18.18 or newer and PostgreSQL 12.14 or newer (or Docker with the provided compose file). Umami Cloud is the hosted option.

Cloud plans are Hobby at $0 (100K events per month, 1 website, 6-month retention), Pro at $20 per month (1 million events, up to 20 websites) and Business at $200 per month (10 million events), plus a custom Enterprise plan. Pro and Business have a 14-day free trial and are billed monthly.
