Our verdict

qBittorrent is for people who want a free, ad-free BitTorrent client with a µTorrent-style interface. Skip it if you want a polished macOS app, since the site says macOS is barely supported.

What it does well

  • Free, with no ads according to the site
  • Built-in search, RSS with regex filters, web interface and torrent creator
  • Windows, Linux AppImage and macOS builds; also FreeBSD and OS/2 listed

Where it falls short

  • Site says the macOS version is barely supported
  • Windows builds are 64-bit only
  • Donations requested; the project is run by volunteers
The qBittorrent website
The official qBittorrent website, 17 October 2026.

qBittorrent is an open-source BitTorrent client built on Qt and libtorrent-rasterbar, developed by volunteers. The latest stable version is v5.2.4, with v5.3.0rc1 as a release candidate. It supports magnet links, DHT, PEX, LSD, private torrents, encryption, sequential downloading, queueing, a bandwidth scheduler, IP filtering, IPv6 and UPnP/NAT-PMP.

It includes a search engine that queries many torrent sites, RSS support with filters, a torrent creation tool and a web interface. The site says it has no ads.

It is free; the site asks users to donate. The source code is under GPL version 2 or later with an OpenSSL exception, and the binary distribution is GPLv3 or later because of included image assets.
