Our verdict

Duplicati suits home users and small teams who want a free encrypted backup client with many storage options. Skip it if you want a managed service with support included at no cost.

What it does well

  • Encrypts with AES-256 or GPG before upload
  • Supports many destinations including S3, Backblaze B2, OneDrive, SFTP and NAS

Where it falls short

  • Paid console features (alerts, remote management) cost per machine
  • Some folders in the repo use a separate proprietary Duplicati Inc licence
  • Free console plan monitors only 2 machines and the last 200 backups
