BigCommerce
Hosted online store platform with open APIs, headless options and built-in B2B features.
Our verdict
What it does well
- 15-day free trial with no credit card needed
- Zero payment fees with embedded payment providers on all plans
- Full API and code access, plus a headless commerce option
Where it falls short
- Plans are tied to sales caps (GMV) and auto-upgrade, for example Core to Growth
- Third-party (open) payment providers cost 2.0% on Core, 1.0% on Growth, 0.6% on Scale
- Phone support is not included on the Core plan

BigCommerce is a SaaS ecommerce platform. You can build a store visually, with code, or both. The site lists a one-page checkout, B2B features such as account-specific pricing, multiple storefronts, product feed management through Feedonomics, and an AI assistant called Companion. It lists over 1,200 apps and a Headless Commerce option.
Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax. Core is US$29 per month billed annually (US$39 monthly), Growth is US$79 (US$105), Scale is US$299 (US$399), and Performance starts at US$1,499 per month billed annually with custom terms. Plans are tied to trailing 12-month sales: up to US$30K on Core, US$100K on Growth, and Scale covers US$33,333 a month with a 0.9% overage above that.
Payment fees: using an embedded payment provider costs nothing extra from BigCommerce on any plan. Orders through other (open) providers carry a fee of 2.0% of order value on Core, 1.0% on Growth and 0.6% on Scale. The free trial lasts 15 days and needs no credit card, though you need a payments partner to take payments.
